About Ángel Atienza

Ángel was an artistic member of the Mario Maya Company (1991-1993) and belonged to the first phase of the Andalusian Dance Company under the direction of the same choreographer from 1994 to 1996. While at the company, he participated in performances such as De lo flamenco y réquiem flamenco. He also performed as a solo dancer in several productions of the Manuela Carrasco Company, including La raíz del Grito (VIII Bienal de Flamenco) and Así baila Sevilla (IX Bienal de Flamenco) touring all over the world. Working with Javier Barón, Ángel participated in the creation of the production Hombre de Hierro Hombre de Bronce which was presented at the IX Bienal de Flamenco In addition, as a soloist, Ángel also worked in international flamenco festivals such as those in Costa Rica, Florence, Torino, Italy, sharing billing with other flamenco greats such as Cristina Hoyos, Eva la Yerbabuena, Miguel Poveda and many others. In 2009, Ángel participated in a tribute show for his legendary teacher, Mario Maya, at the Lope de Vega Theatre in Seville and the Festival de Jerez. And in 2012, he performed in De la Punta a la Raíz for the closing ceremony of the XVII Bienal de Flamenco. As a choreographer Ángel has worked with companies in Italy (Mónica Morra Company), Germany (María Serrano Company), Japan (for the production of Momentos Flamenco), Ireland, Switzerland, Taiwan and Costa Rica.

Ángel was born in Morón de la Frontera, 65km outside the capital of flamenco, Seville. From an early age, he combined his dance career with his training in flamenco with great artists such as Manolete, Mario Maya, Manolo Marín and Goyo Montero. As a dancer he worked with some of the most renowned flamenco companies in the country and has performed in several editions of the famous Bienal de Flamenco, a prestigious competition and performance festival held every two years in Seville since 1980. |

Teaching Methodology For new students, Ángel emphasizes the need to have a solid foundation: rhythm, balance, foot technique, musicality, awareness of space and coordination. As they advance, each student is challenged to develop by overcoming their limitations through daily practice. Advanced dancers are guided in developing technical awareness and artistic judgment so they can continue to progress. Ángel’s ability to identify and cater to individual needs make him a much sought after teacher in Seville and around the world. |
Escuela de Flamenco Ángel Atienza
Ángel’s passion for flamenco has led him to share his way of expressing this colorful and passionate art form. In 2006, Ángel Atienza created Escuela de Flamenco Ángel Atienza, his own flamenco school in Seville, a place dedicated to the dissemination and professional teaching of flamenco. He is much appreciated for his clear methodology and great direction when teaching which is marked by respect and commitment to the students. As a well-respected and highly experienced teacher, he has been invited to teach flamenco dance around the world, in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan, Costa Rica and USA. |
