COURSE DESCRIPTION
Complete Beginner This course is suitable for anyone. No dance or flamenco experience is required. Students should wear flamenco shoes or thick heeled shoe of no more than 5cm. Proper dance wear is recommended. Women may wear a full circle skirt, while men should wear stretchy slacks suitable for dancing. Advanced Beginner I This course is suitable for dancers with at least six months of flamenco experience or those who want to work on the basics to build a strong foundation. Students will continue to strengthen all the fundamental elements of flamenco including arm positions (braceo), hand movements (floreo), rhythm (compás), footwork (zapateado), and markings (marcajes). This class aims at building a solid base with proper body posture, understanding flamenco rhythms and music, and coordinating arm and leg movements. Beginner I is a technique and choreography course. Students should wear flamenco shoes. Women should wear full circle skirts, while men should wear stretchy slacks suitable for dancing. Advanced Beginner II This course is suitable for dancers with at least one year of lessons, or those who want to continue to build stronger foundational skills. Students will continue to develop skills in braceo, floreo, compás, and marcaje. They will begin to experience more elements such as turns (vuelta), hand clapping (palmas) as well as different zapateado combinations. Students will experience greater demand in body posture, coordination of arm/wrist and arm/leg while working through fundamental flamenco movements. Beginner II is a technique and choreography course. Students should wear flamenco shoes. Women should wear full circle skirts, while men should wear stretchy slacks suitable for dancing. Tango Por Fiesta: beginner improvisation This course is suitable for dancers, musicians and singers with some tango experience. Students will learn about the working relationship between singer, dancer and musician, how to give signals and how to respond and improvise. This is not an introductory or choreography course on tango. Students will be expected to apply what they already know into the por fiesta environment. Flamenco shoes are mandatory, while flamenco wear is optional. Bulería Por Fiesta Practice Suitable for those with previous Buleria Por Fiesta training. This course is a strictly practice class for dancer, singer or musician. Live music in the form of cante and/or guitar will be provided for practice, and students may choose to practice singing, dancing or guitar. This is not an introductory or choreography course. Flamenco shoes are mandatory, while flamenco wear is optional. Beginner Cante & Flamenco Listening This course is suitable for dancer, singer and musician. This is more than just a singing class. Students will learn song structure and understand how to listen to flamenco music. Previous singing or music experience is helpful but not required. This course is suitable for all levels of dancers. Beginners are especially welcomed. CPR CPR stands for compás, palmas, and ritmo, Compás is the pulse, palmas is clapping, and ritmo is the rhythm, three essential components for successful flamenco. Flamenco artists need not only to understand but execute all three with efficiency, clarity and confidence. At MCCC, students will have the space to experience, experiment and practice all three elements within the dance. Class work includes palmas, listening, footwork, short dance sequences and exercises for practical application. Suitable for all levels of dancers. This class is suitable for dancers, singers and musicians. |
